Long Halloween Part 2---> Curry before party
Food in Canada is boring and expensive, with mostly fast food and BBQ meat making regular appearances on our menu. As mentioned in previous posts, french fries have already become a staple in our meal since rice tastes like crap here. Hence, we decided to cook ourselves some dishes from home that can lend us a brief respite to our long suffering palate. The first dish that came to mind was a no brainer: Curry, as the Ingredients for that dish are readily available. To 'spice' things up abit, we invited a couple of French over for the dinner, and I really could not wait to see the expressions on their faces when they taste the fiery bowls of curry. Did I mention that Nelly's threshold for spicy food is extremely low? *wicked grin*
Nothing reminds me more of home than food. While we were waiting for the curry to simmer, the aroma from the pot simply overwhelmed us.
The smaller pot of curry was for the French. It was less spicy than the bigger pot.
Jiawei suggested cooking some Tom Yam soup as well. Great news for us, more bad news for Nelly and perhaps most of the French...
Jiawei, the chef who was at the helm of the kitchen for that night. Was his job cushy? His expression says it all in this picture.
All smiles after a great meal.
The French were either being extremely polite or brave to finish their portion of curry and Tom Yam (it was literally licked clean). In the words of David, " It's so hot, but I can't stop eating because it's too delicious!". But poor Nelly had only a few mouthful of curry and Tom Yam, surviving mostly on the goreng pisang we made for dessert and the French loaves we bought. Special thanks must be made to Xing for so generously lending us his kitchen for this dinner to be possible.
