Long Halloween Part 1---> Floor decoration

Halloween, the mere mention of this festivity conjures image of whole bunch of kids draped in costumes of superheros, ghouls, brightly coloured and impossibly furry animals etc, dragging sacks of candies from the entire night of 'trick or trick-ing'. At least that is what folks back at home will think. But in North America, Halloween is a big deal and in my humble opinion, it comes a close second to Christmas. Young adults dress up in costumes as well (not to 'trick or treat' of course), wreaking havoc at parties with plenty of drinks and smokes.

Before heading to the party held by the exchange students, there was a floor decorating competition held by our residence to kick start the Halloween spirit. Although I was reluctant to participate in it initially, Jiahao's enthusiasm for this entire affair eventually made me relent. As we were soon to find out, the experience was amusing indeed! The entire floor participated in this ridiculously hyped up event and wanted the judges to have a you-know-these-people-are-in-costume-but-can-you-still-act-like-you-are-afraid experience. Despite knowing that we don't stand a chance in frightening these sophomore (2nd year undergraduates, sempai in Japanese) judges, I played along and got into the mood as well.

Theme for the decorating competition? An asylum with all its patients running loose.

I have no idea why they wanna let the toilet papers drape from the ceiling, but from a distant, it reminded me of a gigantic toothbrush.

The entire floor was extravagantly covered in black thrash bag. The objective was simple: engulfing the entire floor in total darkness when the lights are switched off. It was a huge success, everyone practically had to grope around when the lights were switched off.

What spooked Jiahao? I guess it was the thought of being caught wearing his less than flattering pair of pyjamas Our role for that night was to grab the feet of any judges who walked by that stretch of corridor. When the lights were switched off, we were totally 'invisible'.

The guy having a 'brain sugery' is Blake, he basically had this gigantic mass of raw meat mixed with tomato sauce spreaded nicely onto his head. The girls were having a great time of course, but the same could not be said for Blake who spent hours in the showers after the whole event. Fortunately enough, he had just shaved his head a few weeks ago.

I have to admit, there was plenty of fun. Jiahao even 'upgraded' his role to that of a chinese ghost, yelling a string of nonsense in chinese at the sophomores. Scary... The night ended with the clearing up of the huge mess we have created during the decoration. We did not win the first place in this competition of course, and I secretly began to speculate whether Jiahao's relentless rant with his mother tongue has anything to do with it.
